WORDPRESS & SEO — MINNEAPOLIS
Minneapolis WordPress, SEO, and Support — From the Person Who Actually Does the Work
If your WordPress site is slow, hard to update, or hard to find on Google, you don’t need a bigger agency. You need one person who knows WordPress, tells you the truth about what’s wrong, and fixes it.
That’s me. I’ve built and fixed WordPress sites since 2013 — more than 100 of them — and I’m based right here in Minneapolis. When you hire me, you work with me. No account managers, no ticket queue, no handing your site to whoever’s free that week. And I’m still around after launch.

DEVELOPMENT & DESIGN
WordPress Development & Web Design in Minneapolis
Whether you need a new site or a rebuild of one that’s fighting you, I build WordPress that’s fast, clean, and easy to run. I keep the stack lean on purpose — no page-builder bloat, no thirty plugins doing the work of three. That restraint is the difference between a site that loads in a second and one your visitors leave before it finishes.
I design around your business, not a template I’ve reused five times. You get a site that looks like you, reads clearly, works on a phone, and that you can update yourself — because a site you’re afraid to touch isn’t really yours. When I hand it over, I show you how to run it.
And if someone built your site and then disappeared — that’s a lot of what I do. I find what’s actually broken and fix it, without pushing you into a rebuild you don’t need.
“He always has a positive attitude, explains what he’s doing and why he’s doing it, and how what he is doing will positively impact our business. Most of all, we’ve seen great results in our visibility.”
— Laura Purdy, Co-owner, Journeys Home Pet Euthanasia
SUPPORT & MAINTENANCE
WordPress Support & Maintenance
Most “WordPress emergencies” I get called for started months earlier, as a skipped update. Support shouldn’t mean waiting two days for a ticket reply. It should mean someone already watching the site so the emergency never happens.
I handle maintenance the boring, important way — core, theme, and plugin updates, regular backups, security scans, and a real person checking that nothing broke afterward. When something does go wrong — a white screen, a plugin conflict, a site that won’t load — you message me, not a queue.
My maintenance plans are scoped up front, so you always know what’s covered and you never get a surprise invoice. A quiet brochure site and a busy lead-generating site don’t need the same attention, and I won’t pretend they do.
“Our website was a mess, despite our best efforts at basic maintenance. Barney was able to untangle the ball of string that it had become and close some serious security holes.”
— Jeff Brown, Wisconsin Access to Justice
MINNEAPOLIS SEO
Minneapolis WordPress SEO
A site nobody can find isn’t doing its job. SEO is where my two specialties meet — I make the site fast, structure it so Google understands it, and clear out the technical problems quietly keeping you off page one.
This isn’t keyword games or bought links. It’s the durable work that holds up:
- Speed — Google rewards fast sites, and so do your customers.
- Clean structure — clear headings and sensible links, the way people and search engines both expect.
- Schema markup — code that tells Google exactly what your business is and where, so you qualify for richer search listings.
- Content that answers real questions — pages built around what your customers actually search, not what a keyword tool guessed.
And because I do both the building and the SEO, there’s no second team to blame when rankings slip. It’s all me.
Result (a wellness-training business): I cut the homepage from 9.16MB to 2.86MB — roughly 70% lighter — and lifted PageSpeed from 56 to 76 on mobile, and 40 to 72 on desktop.
HOW IT WORKS
No long onboarding. Three steps.
STEP 1
We Talk
Thirty minutes on your site, your goals, and what’s not working. No pitch — just an honest read on where you stand.
STEP 2
I Diagnose
I find what’s actually wrong — speed, SEO, security, or structure — and tell you what’s worth fixing and what isn’t.
STEP 3
I Fix It, You Stay in the Loop
Clear updates as I go, scope agreed up front, a site that’s measurably better when I’m done.
HONEST FIT
Who I’m Not For
I’ll be honest about the trade-off. I’m not the cheapest option, and I’m not a hands-off agency with a ticketing system. If you want the lowest bid or a faceless team, I’m not your fit — and I’ll tell you that on the call instead of spending your money to find out.
I’m the right fit if you want one person who knows your site, tells you the truth about what it needs, and is still reachable a year from now.
LOCAL
Why a Local Minneapolis WordPress Specialist
I’m based in the Mill District, and I’ve spent years in this community — I used to lead a local WordPress meetup, so “WordPress person” isn’t a title I picked up last year. Local means someone in your time zone, who understands small-business budgets, and who doesn’t vanish after launch.
I only recommend work that moves the needle. If part of your site doesn’t need fixing, I’ll tell you — that’s cheaper for you, and it’s how I’d want to be treated.
“Most importantly, Barney is honest enough to tell us that we may not be better served with paid search ads, given our tremendous organic reach. Now that is an honest consultant.”
— Richard Ruth, Owner, Navy Pictures
FAQ
Minneapolis WordPress — FAQ
Do you work with businesses outside Minneapolis?
Yes. I’m in Minneapolis and I like working with local businesses, but most WordPress work is location-independent — I have clients across the country. Local just means I’m in your time zone and I know the market you’re selling into.
Can you fix my existing site, or do I need a new one?
Usually I can fix what you have. Cleaning up sites someone else abandoned is a big part of my work. If a rebuild is genuinely the better call, I’ll tell you — but I won’t push one you don’t need.
Do you offer ongoing WordPress support?
Yes. I have monthly maintenance plans covering updates, backups, security, and direct support, scoped to what your site actually needs. You can see what’s covered on my maintenance page.
How much does a WordPress project cost?
It depends on what your site needs, and I price it up front after we talk — no surprise invoices. The first step is a free 30-minute consultation, so I can give you a real number instead of a guess.
What makes you different from a WordPress agency?
You work directly with me, start to finish — the person doing the actual work. No account managers, no queue, no handoffs. Faster answers, and someone who knows your site.
